When the Folschviller mine closed, the Berfang pond was built on the site of one of the old basins that collected the slurries and sludge from the coal washing water from the mine. Today, an exceptionally rich fauna and vegetation have taken over this green, forest and water setting. The zone is classified “Sensitive Natural Area” and “Natural Zone of Ecological, Faunistic and Floristic Interest”. To guide walkers, the Club Vosgien of Saint-Avold has marked out a circular path of 1.7 km with 14 information panels. Welcome to the “zone of silence”: watch, listen and appreciate.
